Musk was then invited to join Twitter’s board of directors, which he first accepted before refusing. The next day, Twitter unveiled a “poison pill” policy. On April 25, Twitter’s board of directors overwhelmingly approved Musk’s $44 billion acquisition offer, paving the way for the company’s privatisation. Musk’s proposed improvements and vision for the firm have been praised, but worries of an increase in misinformation and abuse on the platform have been raised.
Elon Musk has halted his $44 billion (£35 billion) purchase of Twitter, citing worries over the amount of bogus or spam accounts on the social media network. He said he was waiting for facts “to corroborate, calculation that spam/fake accounts represent fewer than 5% of users.”

Without citing a source, Musk claimed in a tweet that Twitter is “20% fake/spam accounts” and suggested Twitter’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission were misleading. The company has said that less than 5% of its daily active users are spam accounts.
