Marvel Studios is developing a new Daredevil series, but whether Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock remains to be seen. While it’s unclear whether the new series would be a complete remake of the Man Without Fear plot or a continuation of the original Netflix series, subsequent MCU projects and comments have raised the chances of Cox’s comeback.
The series will be remarkable for being the first Netflix Marvel show to have a new but continued series, according to sources, but Marvel has yet to make a formal announcement. Daredevil starred Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day who went out at night as a superhero protecting the streets of Hell’s Kitchen thanks to his enhanced senses. Daredevil frequently crossed over with other Marvel shows, notably The Defenders, a team-up series. While all of Netflix’s Marvel programmes were terminated with the launch of Disney+ in 2018, Cox had a brief cameo as Murdock in the MCU proper in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, representing Peter Parker who was in desperate need of legal advice. Similarly, Daredevil’s main antagonist Wilson Fisk made an appearance in Marvel’s Hawkeye series, with Vincent D’onofrio reprising his role as New York’s Kingpin of Crime.
Given both of these recent cameos, Charlie Cox’s chances of returning for the new Daredevil series in production for Disney+ are high. While the return of Cox is still a possibility, recasting Daredevil after these cameos wouldn’t make much sense. Similarly, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s recent comments about Cox as the MCU’s Daredevil encourage a return. He claimed, “If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
Even if Marvel Studios decided to reinvent Daredevil’s tale rather than continuing what was shown in Netflix’s three seasons, recasting would be ill-advised considering Charlie Cox’s tremendous support from fans while playing the Man Without Fear. Whatever form the new Disney+ Daredevil series takes, Cox’s performance will be remembered.
