Downton Abbey is probably one of the most eagerly anticipated return shows. Julian Fellowes wrote and co-wrote the script. The series premiered on ITV in the United Kingdom on September 26, 2010, and on PBS in the United States on January 9, 2011, as part of its Masterpiece Classic anthology, which supported the series’ development.

The series depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926, with the great events of the time having an impact on their lives and the British social hierarchy. News of the Titanic’s sinking in the first series; the outbreak of World War I, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal in the second series; the Irish War of Independence leading to the formation of the Irish Free State in the third series; the Teapot Dome scandal in the fourth series; the British general election of 1923 and the Beer Hall Putsch in the fifth series; and the British general election of 1923 and the Beer Hall Putsch in the sixth series.

The majority of the original cast has returned to Downton Abbey, including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, and Michelle Dockery. This is the first feature film directed by Simon Curtis and the second instalment of the popular series. When it comes to television shows, it’s not often that viewers get a change of scenery, but this time fans are heading beyond the gorgeous grounds of Downton Abbey and into France.

When Lady Violet (Maggie Smith) is given a villa in the south of France, she and her family travel there to unearth mysteries that have been kept concealed for decades. Meanwhile, at home, Mary (Michelle Dockery) takes command as mayhem reigns. The modern world has arrived at Downton Abbey, with a film team and cast setting up shop. In a man’s world, taking the reins is difficult for a woman, but Mary aspires to be a dragon force and a pillar of strength for her family and team. Hugh Dancy is a new addition to the cast who did not appear in either the series or the prior feature. Jack Barber, who plays a young film director, sets up his crew to shoot at Downton.

In November of 2021, a fragment of the trailer was released, followed by the full trailer on February 15, 2022. The teaser, which has been viewed over seven million times, inspires the kind of nostalgia that only Downton Abbey can deliver. Universal Pictures released the picture on April 29 in all major movie theatres in the United Kingdom and Australia, and it will be released in the United States on May 20.
