The trial of Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard is now in its third week, and Heard testified and answered questions in a Virginia courtroom on Wednesday. This time, the Aquaman -73 percent star revealed further details about his involvement in the DC Films sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, in which he was slated to star alongside Jason Momoa.
Amber confessed on May 17 that things with Warner Bros. and DC Films had been difficult for her from the start, as she stated that they did not want her to reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman 2, which is why she had to battle to keep her part in the feature picture. Amber claimed on the stand yesterday that Warner Bros. had initially dismissed her from her contract. Originally, the pact comprised three films: Justice League -41 percent, Aquaman, and a possible sequel to one of the two films. The actress emphasised her battle once more to ensure that she did not lose her position, and she said that she is unsure if she will feature in the final cut of the tape.
Heard, on the other hand, is currently undergoing a month-long defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Heard has spoken about her role in Aquaman 2 several times during the trial, giving new details about her involvement in the sequel. According to CBS News, Heard has now provided more details about her return to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, revealing that she was originally released from her contract prior to filming.
“They released me from my contract. And, I fought to stay in it, and they kept me in it; I just don’t know how much I’m in, actually, of the final cut.” Later, Heard elaborated on her participation in the sequel, adding she’s not sure whether she’ll be in it at all, saying, “I don’t know if I will even be in the final cut or how much I will be. It was difficult to stay in the movie.”
Audiences believe Amber deserved to lose her position in Aquaman 2 just like Johnny has been written off from major cinematic projects. A petition to have the actress removed from the sequel has surpassed 4 million signatures, indicating that the public does not want to see her in it. According to previous reports, Heard’s role was reduced to less than 10 minutes on stage, and her character was completely eliminated.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released in 2023, is one of the films that will continue the DCEU’s expansion, with The Flash, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, among others. The screenplay for Aquaman 2 was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and directed by James Wan. Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman round out the cast, which also features Momoa.
