Taylor Swift got an honorary doctorate in fine arts from New York University today. The singer wore a cap, a blue gown, and a black outfit to the Yankee Stadium in New York. She also gave a speech at New York University’s all-school commencement ceremony in 2022.

In her speech, she said, “I’m 90 percent sure the main reason I’m here is because I have a song called ’22′.” She continued, “I know that words are supposed to be my thing, but I will never be able to find the words to thank my mom and my dad, and my brother, Austin, for the sacrifices they made every day so that I could go from singing in coffee houses to standing up here with you all today because no words would ever be enough.”

Even though she “never got to have the usual college experience,” Swift explained the honour of speaking in front of kids. The artist then added, “As a kid, I always thought I would go away to college, imagining the posters I’d hang on the wall of my freshman dorm. I even set the ending of my music video for my song ‘Love Story’ at my fantasy imaginary college, where I meet a male model reading a book on the grass and with one single glance, we realize we had been in love in our past lives — which is exactly what you guys all experienced at some point in the last four years, right?”

Swift fans have been watching the live feed of her New York University graduation ceremony and sharing photos on social media. Netizens have gone to Twitter to congratulate the 11-time Grammy winner and express her their best wishes. Fans flooded social media with pictures of themselves congratulating the celebrity and praising her “earnest” statement.

Some said they cried and felt like “proud mums” as they watched her graduate. They said they’sobbed so hard’ while snapping screenshots of the live event. Various forms of “Doctor Taylor Swift” began trending on Twitter before the ceremony even started. Swift made sure to take advantage of the fact that she is now a doctor. She posted an Instagram post before the ceremony, getting ready for the ceremony.

Swift delivered encouragement and advice to students as they went on the next chapter of their lives during her speech, while also noting the unconditional support that loved ones may have provided along the way. Swift couldn’t resist but poke fun at herself despite her motivating comments, teasing that she’s “not the type of doctor you would want around in the case of an emergency, unless your specific emergency was that you desperately needed to hear a song with a catchy hook and an intensely cathartic bridge section. Or if your emergency was that you needed a person who can name over 50 breeds of cats in one minute.”
