Katy Perry admitted that couple’s counselling is one way she maintains her relationship with Orlando Bloom healthy.
Katy answered a fan’s question on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, where she was asked how she might quit yelling at her boyfriend. The vocalist of “Roar” advised taking “three deep breathes” before speaking. “I know that sounds cliché,” Katy said, adding, “I know what it’s like to be yelled at as a child,” and emphasising that yelling at someone “isn’t going to work.”
“Orlando and I do couple’s counselling, and we enjoy it because it keeps us in touch, because resentment can build up quickly when you’re both working hard,” Katy continued.
“When you want to come back to being normal in a domesticated environment where you have a child and stuff like that, you have to really learn how to be kind of different out there in the large and in the tiny,” Katy remarked, referring to how things are different when one is in the professional limelight. As a result, that couple’s therapy has been very successful.”
Katy also discussed her 2017 separation with Bloom, revealing that it happened during “the hardest year of my life” because she needed to “develop and mature” as a person. Katy attributes her readiness for that kind of connection to her participation in the Hoffman Process, a week-long retreat aimed to eliminate harmful patterns and behaviours. “It completely transformed my life,” she remarked.
In response to the question, Katy remarked, “Your partners usually see your best and a lot of your worst qualities because they’re there to be your mirrors.” “Orlando and I go to couple’s counselling, which we enjoy because it keeps us in tune, because resentment can build up quickly when you’re both working hard.” And God bless successful people in the spotlight, because if you want to return to being normal in a domesticated world with a child and such, you have to truly understand how to be different out there in the large and little. As a result, that couple’s therapy has been very successful.”
“But she [the viewer] asked if there was a treatment or something like that,” Chelsea said, to which the singer responded, “I went to this place called the Hoffman Process, which I’m sure you’ve heard of.” And I went there—Orlando had gone there first.”
After the getaway, the Lord of the Rings star reportedly returned and “wasn’t leaning into all of my nonsense, so it was boring.” ‘We’re breaking up then!’ I exclaimed as it became tedious. Then I had the hardest year of my life—not just because of relationships, but because so many other things were altering and moving for me in ways that I honestly feel were opportunities for me to mature and learn. It seemed as though we’d arrived to a fork in the road.
When Katy got to this point, she decided to attempt the Hoffman Process for herself. “You don’t have a cell phone, so you just get deep into workouts with other people, which is amazing because they constantly stimulate you, and you work through those triggers.” But basically, it’s a location where you may re-wire your brain’s neuro-pathways and discover new things. There is a lot of awareness. You’ll learn why you have these patterns and habits and where they come from, and whether they’re actually coming from mom or dad. So who yelled at you if you’re yelling? It takes practise. It completely transformed my life.
