It’s not surprising that the trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, a ten-year-in-the-making sequel, has received an incredible amount of attention. The sheer number of views in the first 24 hours after its release, on the other hand, demonstrates how anxious fans of the previous film are to return to the mysterious world of Pandora.
The teaser was first shown in theatres over the weekend before being released online on May 9. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film had 148.6 million views in only one day, with 23 million of those coming from China alone. This implies that the trailer has surpassed all of the recent Star Wars films in terms of views in a single day. In comparison, Rise of Skywalker received 112.4 million views in the first 24 hours, falling short of Cameron’s impending sci-fi sequel by tens of millions of views.

The millions of individuals who saw the teaser trailer on the big screen before seeing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuted to $187 million domestically and $450 million internationally, are not included in the amount of views on social media and YouTube.

The teaser expands on Pandora’s Earth-like moon and the incredible diverse fauna that call it home, which enthralled audiences ten years ago. Although it does not reveal the plot, as those information have been kept under wraps until now, we do know that Sam Worthington will reprise his role as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaa will reprise her role as Na’vi Neytiri. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are among the cast members who will return for the sequel. The sequel will also introduce the mythical world of Pandora. Michelle Yeoh, Edie Falco, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and Kate Winslet will all have key roles in the film.

With a global box office of $2.84 billion, Avatar, released in 2009, is the highest-grossing film ever. A repaired version of the original Avatar will be released in theatres on September 23, similar to Cameron’s Titanic.
On December 16, 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in theatres.
