Stephen King is known as “The King of Horror” and his works has a lot of “what ifs” aspect, the prominent writer wrote many novels which are based on a kid who ascertain that they have supernatural characteristics which sets them apart. For instance, the classic horror “The Shining” was about a man who has a claustrophobic episode forcing him to go insane and chase his wife and child with an axe but the title of the film referred to the kid Danny Torrence’s unique powers. Similarly, Stephen King’s book “The Institue”, published in 2019, centers around a group of children who have been abducted by an agency due to their superhuman traits and his novel “The Green Mile” (1996) focused on a death row prisoner John Coffey with mysterious capability to heal others.
The official trailer of “Firestarter” came out on February this year, generating exciting among horro lovers. The film is a remake of the 1984 movie of the same name and it is adapted from Stephen King novel which was published in 1980. Firestarter is directed by Keith Thomas and produced by Blumhouse Productions, King examined the screenplay written by Scott Teems and gave the green-light. The 1984 movie depicted a character called Charlie McGee, played by Drew Barrymore who was then 8 at the time, and her parents Andrew and Vicky McGee, played by Heather Locklear (Melrose Place). Now before, Charlie is born, her parents participate in an experimental drug test which ends up with both getting telepathy (the power to read other’s mind) and telekinesis (the ability to move objects with mind).
When, Andrew and Vicky’s daughter Charlie starts exhibiting pyrokinesis (the ability to set objects or people ablaze), the family is tracked by a secret government agency called “The Shop”. Her supernatural capability is more than her mom and dad, resulting in her being the one looking after them. Firestarter will be hitting the theatres on 13th May this year. In 2022’s Firestarter, star Zac Efron (Neighbors, 17 Again) will be playing Charlie’s father i.e. Andy McGee, Sydney Lemmon (Helstrom) will play Vicky, her mom and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Tomorrow War) will portray the character of Charlie. Other actors are Gloria Reuben who will be Cap Hollister and Kurtwood Smith who is going to depict Dr Joseph Wanless.
In this latest version when Charlie begins displaying signs of pyrokinesis, her dad Andy will find himself in a battle to protect her from the government agency “The Shop” which is working to capture her. The Shop wants to perfrom study on her as she was born with this supernatural ability to generate fire, her parents experience the repercussions whenever using their powers but she doesn’t which is what makes the agency curious in Charlie. The Shop is responsible for developing the drug in the first place.
