Vampires are here to stay on Netflix, as yet another series based on the blood-sucking supernatural creatures is set to premiere. Instead of a prestige drama from Midnight Mass’ Mike Flanagan, the streamer will give subscribers First Kill, a young adult fantasy.
The series stars YA author V.E. Schwab and scream queen Emma Roberts in a sapphic teen drama. Schwab will serve as the show’s writer, director, and executive producer. Roberts and her best friend, Karah Priess, will produce the series through their media company Belletrist Productions, which is said to have “an eye toward celebrating book lovers.” Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher) will serve as showrunner, as well as a writer and executive producer on the project.
What is the story of First Kill about?
Juliette, a teenager, is required to make her first kill in order to take her place among her powerful vampire family. When Juliette sets her sights on Calliope, the new girl in town, she bites off more than she can chew when it is revealed that Calliope comes from a family of renowned vampire hunters. Both the vampire and the hunter quickly realize that the other isn’t so easy to kill, but far too easy to fall for.
It has been confirmed that the first season of First Kill will consist of eight episodes, with each episode lasting approximately 60 minutes.
The cast of First Kill
Sarah Catherine Hook (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, NOS4A2, Impeachment: American Crime Story) stars as Juliette Fairmont, a shy teen vampire who refuses to transform into a monster. Her family is behind her, but legacy and love don’t always go hand in hand. Imani Lewis (Hightown, The Equalizer, Eighth Grade) stars as Calliope “Cal” Burns, a monster hunter who is fearless, determined, and more vulnerable than she admits. Her sense of duty clashes with the secret love she feels in her heart.
