A new poster for Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy features the Sparrow Academy in their official costumes. The Umbrella Academy follows seven children who were all born on the same day and each have their own special superpower. Tom Hopper, David Castaeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Elliot Page star. Meanwhile, Justin H. Min plays Ben, aka Number 6, who was thought to be dead throughout The Umbrella Academy seasons 1 and 2. The most recent season was released on Netflix in 2020, so there is a lot of excitement for season 3.
The second season of The Umbrella Academy takes place in Dallas, Texas in the 1960s, where the Hargreeves siblings must once again prevent an apocalypse. By the end of season 2, the family has saved the world from destruction and has returned to April 2, 2019, the day after The Umbrella Academy season 1’s apocalypse. They are initially overjoyed to discover that the Hargreeves mansion still stands and that the world has not been destroyed. However, their time travel had unintended consequences. One of these consequences is that the mansion they are standing in front of is actually owned by the Sparrow Academy, of which a very different Ben is a member.
Netflix has released official posters for The Umbrella Academy season 3 and the Sparrow Academy, which show off their costumes as they assemble in the same manner as the titular team. Justin Cornwell, Min, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David are among the new Sparrow Academy cast members. There’s also Christopher, a telekinetic cube with an unannounced voice actor who serves as a family mediator.
Beyond the high stakes of potential world annihilation and time travel, one of the reasons The Umbrella Academy has been so compelling thus far is that the Hargreeves siblings are not one big happy superhero family. Each character has a unique relationship with each other family member, and these shifting dynamics are part of what keeps viewers interested. With the addition of the Sparrow Academy in the same house, these dynamics will undoubtedly be altered. This could provide The Umbrella Academy season 3 with even more family tension and, hopefully, some resolution.
Viewers can expect to see what powers each Sparrow Academy member possesses, as well as whether these powers are related to their Umbrella Academy counterparts in season 3. If the powers of the same-numbered characters in each family are related, if not identical, the dynamics of each member and their counterpart may present a power struggle. However, the presence of a personal counterpart may present an opportunity to deepen familial relationships and gain a better understanding of oneself and others. This, as well as how the two families react to new external crises, will be revealed when The Umbrella Academy season 3 premieres on Netflix next month.
