BTS song Fake Love, the title track from their third full album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’, crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube on Saturday, May 23. This is the their 6th MV to hit 1.1 billion views, following songs like ‘Dynamite‘, ‘Mic Drop’, ‘Boy With Luv’, ‘Idol’ and ‘DNA’. This is indeed a very big achievement for the group as this is the second song of BTS in the same month to cross over billion views. Recently, on April 3, BTS’ video song ‘IDOL‘ has also hit 1.1 billion views on YouTube. With this, BTS has become the first and only group in the world to reach this milestone with six distinct YouTube videos.

Fake Love was released in May 18, 2018 by Big Hit Entertainment. It was written by Hitman Bang, RM, and Pdogg, with the latter as producer. On June 12, 2018, Columbia Records released the song as a single to US contemporary hit radio. Fake Love was confirmed to be a part of Love Yourself: Tear, when the band shared the track-listing of the album. The Japanese version of the song was released for digital download and streaming on October 16, 2018, by Universal Music Japan as a single album that included the remix and “Airplane Pt. 2”, both also in Japanese. “Fake Love” is a rock instrumental-based emo hip hop, grunge-rock, rap-rock, and electropop song. The lyrics speak of a love that was previously thought to be destiny but turned out to be a ruse in the end.

Critics complimented the song’s gloomy production, varied sound, and the band’s vocal delivery, and it garnered mostly excellent reviews. It won multiple awards, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Song at the 2019 Korean Music Awards, and was included in NME and Consequence of Sound’s decade-end lists. When the music video for ‘FAKE LOVE’ was released, it set a new record for the fastest K-pop group music video to reach 100 million views, doing it in just over eight days and eight hours, breaking BTS’ own record of their song ‘DNA’.
