Shazam 2! The release date of Fury of the Gods has been pushed back to Christmas 2022.

Shazam 2

Sequel to the 2019 film ‘Shazam!’. Plot details are not yet known.

The 2022 film slate for DC Comics and Warner Brothers was utterly demolished today, and while this will undoubtedly depress many DC fans, Shazam is here to save the day as the lone feature that has moved up its release date. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the much anticipated sequel, will now premiere on December 12, 2022, rather than June 20, 2023, as previously planned.

That’s a six-month gap, and while we don’t know much about the sequel yet, it should at least offer fans hope that WB has something truly exceptional with this Shazam family film on their hands. WB President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein remarked of the rescheduled release date, “We’re happy to present ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ to viewers as a Christmas gift this year,” and added, “Families of all ages will really love it.” Late last year, when speaking with our own Steven Weintraub, Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, hailed the planned sequel and expressed his desire for it to be released sooner.

Aside from Levi, Asher Angel reprises his role as Shazam’s human counterpart Billy Batson, while Jack Dylan Grazer reprises his role as Billy’s best buddy Freddy, who is played by Adam Goldberg. Djimon Honsou reprises his role as the other Shazam, who bestowed Billy’s abilities in the original film. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, as Atlas’ daughters Hespera and Kalypso, are the villains this time. Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) is also a new addition to the cast in an unconfirmed role, but she is rumoured to be Billy Batson’s love interest in the film.

Since the premiere of Shazam 2 is only nine months away, a new poster or trailer should be on the way soon. The December release date worked well for Aquaman, and we can only hope that it will do the same for our favourite DC family when Shazam! arrives in theatres. On December 12, 2022, Fury of the Gods will be released in theatres.
