Ginny and Georgia is based on a thirty year old single mother of two named Georgia Miller, her daughter is Ginny, 15 and son is Austin, 9. The family is often changing their residence thanks to the embarassing incidents, eventually Georgia decides to settle in New England. Ginny and Georgia focuses on flaws in the relationship between Ginny and her mom and the show also addresses sensitive topics including race, consent before sex, body image issues etc. Season one received good ratings and positve reviews, with millions watching the series.
Viewers are eagerly waiting for the second season, on 19th April last year Netflix announced that Ginny and Georgia will be renewed. The shooting of season 2 started in November, 2021 and continued till March this year, therefore so far there is no news or update on when it will air. In October last year, the series’s official Instagram account shared, “Gearing up to film season two let’s take a peek back at filming season one episode one.” In March, this year, the same account posted, “season two is being filmed right now because of all you who watched.” The executive producer of Ginny and Georgia added, “We are so appreciative of all the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny & Georgia.”
Toni Gentry, the actress who portrays the character of Ginny, told in an interview, “I want to see Ginny get down and dirty. I want to see her turn into Georgia a little bit. I want to see her really dig in and show that mean streak I know she has. That would be really fun to explore.” In another interview with Seventeen, Gentry said, “For season 2, the stakes are much higher now — obviously — than we left off with season 1. So, I think fans will be in for a lot of wonderful tension, a lot of building up to climax, and a couple of interesting characters will be revealed. I can’t say a lot about it right now, but I can’t wait for us to go back filming, which is very, very soon.”
Scott Porter, the actor who plays Mayor Paul, shared that there will be more to his role than it seems, “As far as Mayor Paul goes, I have had questions since day one about where he came from because of the things that he says in the show. He went to Brown. He has an Ivy League education, and then he abandoned all of it to travel overseas, backpack, teach English, and get a sense of the world that is much different than a lot of people who try and fast track their way into politics. But then, upon his return to the States, he magically did that. What drives a person like that? He’s multifaceted, yet very direct and focused.”
Identical to season one, Ginny and Georgia’s season 2 will most likely have ten episodes. Each episode will be sixty minutes and will air on Netflix. Those who have not seen the show can watch it on the streaming giant. Although, the show is based in a fictional city known as Wellsbury in the state of Massachusetts, it is actually filmed in Toronto and Cobourg, Canada. Georgia’s house and Mayor Paul’s office are shot at TriBro studios whereas several places located in Cobourg city feature in Ginny and Georgia including Victoria Hall, Blue Fram Cafe etc.
The series will most probably be released in late this year or early 2023. Show ended with Ginny and Austin escaping Wellsbury via a motorcycle following Ginny getting caught off-guard by the private investigator who is working for Kenny’s ex wife. He tells her that her mother Georgia is a killer. Gentry also added that in the new season Ginny will follow her father Zion.
