In order to enhance its supply of fantasy anime programming, Netflix is producing Wings of Fire, a new event series based on author Tui T. Sutherland’s fantasy novel series of the same name. This might be just up your alley if you appreciate watching dragons on television!
Unlike other fantasy titles such as Dungeons & Dragons, Tui T. Sutherland’s Wings of Fire novels showcase a world filled by dragons and scratch the itch of having dragons as the primary characters. A Netflix series based on the novels is now in development, and fans are excited to see what this highly anticipated fantasy series has in store, since there are a variety of world mechanics that make Pyrrhia run.
Production & Release Date
It was initially announced in 2019, but little information about it has been released. It is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation and will be released as a 3D animation on Netflix. The first season will consist of 10 episodes, each of which will last forty minutes. The series is directed by Ava DuVernay, with Dan Milano and Christa Starr serving as showrunners; DuVernay, Tui T. Sutherland, Sam Register, Sarah Bremmner, and Justin Ridge serve as executive producers. The release date has yet to be determined, however it was initially scheduled for 2022. The production started in August 2021, so we can expect a 2023 release window for the series.
The story is set in the epic realm of Pyrrhia, where a long-running conflict between dragon clans has waged for millennia. Five young dragons will rise, according to prophesy, to put an end to the violence and restore peace to the realm. The Dragonets of Destiny – Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny – have been raised and trained in secret since they were hatched, and now embark on an evolving quest that will bring them face to face with their true selves and the overwhelming scope of the savage war they are destined to put an end to.
