Supergirl’s big season finale is over, but is this the end of the inspirational DC series? Will Supergirl return for a seventh season? Supergirl has had a fantastic run thus far. Girl of Steel, starring Melissa Benoist, has been a part of the superhero TV scene for nearly six years, offering some of the most spectacular adventures ever seen on television.

Unfortunately, it does not look like Supergirl Season 7 will air. Despite the show’s devoted following and high ratings, The CW opted to cancel it after its sixth season due to a number of factors. The conviction that it was the ideal time for the programme to conclude, with the Girl of Steel and the Super Friends completing their separate storylines on a high note, was one of them.

Supergirl broadened its reach over the next six seasons to include not only women who look like Kara, but also women of a far larger range of ethnicities, including fan favourites like Maggie Sawyer, Miss Martian, and, of course, our fresh new Guardian, Kelly Olsen. Along the way, Supergirl added LGBTQ+ characters like Kara’s sister, Alex Danvers, and even made history when Nia Nal, TV’s first trans superhero, made her debut.

With the conclusion of Supergirl, all of these wonderful individuals and the numerous tales they had left to tell come to an end. Melissa Benoist is fully aware of this, telling fans shortly after the show’s discontinuation that portraying Kara had inspired her on a personal level as well.

As much as we’d like Kara to fly around the Earth and turn back the clock to rectify the cancellation, the odds of Supergirl returning for a seventh season are little to none. That isn’t to say Melissa Benoist has fully abandoned the cape. The Supergirl actress previously told EW that she’s “not averse to putting on the costume again,” and that “I know there will definitely be opportunities” to do so.
