Netflix has completed production on a new teen LGBTQ romance drama series called Heartstopper, further cementing its position as the premier destination for young adult entertainment. In April 2022, the new series will premiere on Netflix worldwide.

Heartstopper is a film based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels about two guys who meet in a British grammar school and develop affections for one other. What follows is a lovely and profound novel about love, life, and friendship, set against the backdrop of Charlie’s mental illness and coming out. Heartstopper began as a webcomic on Tumblr , where it quickly became a popularity, encouraging Oseman to write his first novel, Solitaire, with the same characters.

Alice Oseman, the author, has produced three book volumes since then, with the fourth set to be released soon. Oseman also created the Netflix series’ script. The romantic drama Heartstopper stars Kit Connor from Rocketman alongside newcomer Joe Locke.

Euros Lyn, famed for his work on Sherlock, Doctor Who, Daredevil, and other shows, will direct all eight episodes of the series, which will be produced by See-Saw Films (Top of the Lake, State of Union) in collaboration with Netflix. We can officially confirm that Heartstopper will premiere on Netflix on Friday, April 22nd, 2022, thanks to the publication of the official trailer.

“It’s a realistic story told in an optimistic way, A lot of shows portray the more negative aspects of being gay, but it’s important to show the beauty of it, and all the lovely things that come along with it”,  says Joe Locke, who portrays Charlie. Nick’s actor Kit Connor adds: “It has rose-tinted glasses on and sees the world through them. It’s also a classic love story.”
