HBO’s popular historical drama “The Gilded Age” is set to return for another season as confirmed by HBO shortly after the last episode of season 1 was aired. And as reported by Deadline, in addition to returning characters, 13 non-regulars have been promoted to regulars, bringing the number of regular characters from 12 to 24.

As part of the promotion, the group is Kelli O’Hara as Aurora Fane, Donna Murphy as Mrs. Astor, Debra Monk as Armstrong, Kristine Nielsen as Mrs. Bauer, Taylor Richardson as Bridget, Ben Ahlers as Jack Trotter, Kelley Curran as Turner, Douglas Sills as Baudin aka Borden, Celia Keenan-Bolger Mrs. Bruce, Michael Cerveris as Watson, Erin Wilhelmi as Adelheid Weber, Patrick Page as  T. Thomas Fortune.

Thomas Cocquerel and his tag-along lawyer Tom Raikes are departing the series as implied by the end of Season 1. Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson, Blake Ritson, Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Denée Benton, Simon Jones, and Jack Gilpin are all expected to return for the second season, along with the rest of the talented cast.

The Gilded Age Season 2’s expanded cast brings with it some missed storylines. A large majority of the promotions went to lower-class characters. This may indicate that we will see more moments from them in the future as they work for the aristocracy. There is rarely as much attention given to the lives of the working class in The Gilded Age. New casting decisions may change that notion, providing viewers with an opportunity to witness life for the lower classes during an era that was so dissipated.

The show is written and executive produced by Julian Fellowes along with Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, and Bob Greenblatt. Michael Engler.
