Based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, HBO Max has ordered Dead Boy Detective into series. HBO has been offering different genres of DC universe be it, Titans or Harley Quinn. Now add to it the horror genre The Dead Boy detective.
Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead British teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace, are the central characters of the eight-part series, a ghost story that explores death, grief, and loss. The show is kinda like an old detective series, but darker and a little odder.
The series showrunner will also be Steve Yockey, who wrote the pilot episode. Jeremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter will also serve as executive producers on the show. It is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. It has also previously been reported that George Rexstrew (The Lodge) and Jayden Revri (Dead Boy) will star as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland respectively in the series. Along with Nelson, Cuoco, and Connell, the ensemble also includes Briana Cuoco (the Flight Attendant, Harley Quinn) as Jenny the Butcher and Ruth Connell (Supernatural, Doom Patrol) as the Night Nurse.
Sarah Aubrey, the HBO Max Head of Original Content, said the following about the upcoming series: “We are excited to be expanding further into the DC Universe with Steve, Jeremy and the Berlanti team with this thrilling new spin on a detective series. We were fascinated by the world of the Dead Boy Detectives that Steve and Jeremy first introduced in Doom Patrol, and cannot wait to follow the supernatural sleuths in the lurid mysteries to come.”
With this series, there are a lot of reasons to be excited, and Yockey is one of them. Yackey is the showrunner of another HBO Max series, The Flight Attendant, which will kick off its second season later this month. So far, the show has blended humor, drama, and mystery in an engaging manner.
