The Lincoln Lawyer is a new Netflix Original crime drama series based on author Michael Connelly’s novel of the same name.
The show was set to premiere on CBS, but it was cancelled before it could air. Netflix is rumoured to be taking over the production in September 2020.
A+E Studios later sued ViacomCBS for cancelling the series in the summer of 2021.
In January 2021, Netflix announced the series, promising to “serve up the complex and mysterious arcs fans know and love with a mix of light-hearted humour.” “I’m thrilled to call Netflix our home,” Connelly added. And I’m thrilled to bring this rich, multi-layered story full of intriguing characters and mysteries to millions of viewers around the world – both old and new fans.”
This isn’t the first time Michael Connelly’s works have been adapted for the big screen. You may recall that Lionsgate released their adaptation of the film in 2011.
The film had a $40 million budget and reportedly made just under $90 million at the box office.
A+E Studios is producing Connelly’s courtroom drama, with Ted Humphrey serving as showrunner, executive producer, and one of the writers. Humphrey is best known for his work on CBS’s The Good Wife and Syfy’s Incorporated.
Ross Fineman will also serve as an executive producer on the series, as will David E. Kelly, who will also serve as a writer and executive producer.
Season 1 of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer Production Schedule
According to a production schedule, production would last until October 29th, 2021. According to IMDbPro, pre-production began in January 2021, and post-production began in late July 2021.
The series was filmed in Los Angeles, California. The series was shot in notable locations such as Marina del Ray, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, Spring Street, and Grand Avenue. Humphrey has stated in interviews that the majority of the show takes place in Downtown Los Angeles.
Ted Humphrey discussed how the show had to adapt while filming during COVID, stating that there were no shutdowns and “very few cases.”
He went on to say that because of the procedures in place, everyone had to arrive on set extra early, which made the days longer and more difficult.
As of December 2021, the show was still in post-production but was nearing completion. When it is handed over to Netflix, it must go through the technical and localization processes.
What is The Lincoln Lawyer’s plot?
The plot of the series will be largely the same as that of the book and subsequent film.
Humphrey stated that we will spend equal time in his iconic Lincoln as well as in the courtroom. He also hinted that there would be one overarching court case that would play out throughout the season. Humphrey described the series in three words: “compelling,” “authentic,” and “fun.”
