Walker Scobell is going to be a demigod. Following months of speculation, Disney+ has chosen Walker Scobell of The Adam Project as Percy Jackson, the youthful demigod in the new Percy Jackson series, based on Rick Riordan’s book series. Walker Scobell has secured the lead role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On Monday morning, executive producer Rick Riordan confirmed the casting announcement on his website, saying, “Walker Scobell is an incredibly talented young man who blew us away with his audition tapes for the role of Percy. Many of you recently discovered how great Walker is when you watched his movie The Adam Project, in which Walker lit up the screen as a younger version of Ryan Reynolds’ character. We were fortunate enough to audition Walker months before that movie came out, but the film only confirmed what we already knew about his talent. It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson.”
Walker Scobell made his acting debut in the Netflix film The Adam Project, in which he co-starred with Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner, and Catherine Keener. He’ll be seen in Paramount’s family action film Secret Headquarters, alongside Owen Wilson, Michael Pea, and Jesse Williams, in cinemas on August 5.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians received a series order from Disney+ in January. The story follows Scobell, a 12-year-old kid who discovers he is a demigod. When the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt, he’s still coming to terms with his newfound extraordinary abilities. Percy now has to go throughout America in search of it and restore order to Olympus.
‘The Lightning Thief,’ ‘The Sea of Monsters,’ ‘The Titan’s Curse,’ “The Battle of the Labyrinth,’ and ‘The Last Olympian’ are the books in the ‘Percy Jackson’ book series. ‘Lightning Thief’ and ‘Sea of Monsters’ were both previously turned into feature films, with Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson.
