HoYeon Jung and the Weeknd  feature in music video for The Weeknd’s ‘Out Of Time’, a fancy hotel bar for a night of karaoke and cocktails. The charismatic co-stars get together over a bottle of wine, sprint across the hotel lobby, and sing out songs in an elevator while bemoaning squandered time: “Say I love you, girl, but I’m out of time-Say I’m there for you, but I’m out of time-Say that I’ll care for you, but I’m out of time-Said, I’m too late to make you mine, out of time “

The Weeknd is alone in a hotel, singing his own song at karaoke in the video, which has a Lost in Translation feel to it. He subsequently meets a woman (HoYeon), sparks fly, and the two of them carry the karaoke machine with them wherever they go, screaming out “Out of Time” in an elevator. However, because this is the Weeknd, the delightful love tale does not end happily. The last parts of the video are cut up with some startling sights of flowing blood, an oddly sterile doctor’s office, and short views of the Weeknd as he appeared during the Dawn FM era. The album’s narrator, Jim Carrey, even makes a surprise appearance at the conclusion of the video, playing a bizarre doctor who appears to drape a mask over the Weeknd’s face.

Carrey speaks in a hushed tone, “Don’t you dare touch that dial — because like the song says, you are out of time, You’re almost there, but don’t panic. There’s still more music to come before you’re completely engulfed in the blissful embrace of that little light you see in the distance. Soon you’ll be healed, forgiven, and refreshed; free from all trauma, pain, guilt, and shame.”

Dawn FM was released in January, after The Weeknd’s 2020 smash album, After Hours. This summer, the pop artist will embark on a major tour in promotion of the new album, which will get off on July 8 in Toronto and end on September 2 in Los Angeles.
