SNL's Creates Sketch Of Will Smith's Slap Incident At The Oscars

Saturday Night Live focused on one of the most controversial episodes which occurred last week leading to mixed reactions from prominent personalities in Hollywood, the Academy Award’s infamous historical altercation of Will Smith with comedian Chris Rock. SNL’s actors recreated the whole Oscars 2022 moment of Smith striking Rock in addition to the host Jerrod Carmichael first addressing it in his monologue. SNL was not going to leave the opportunity of ridiculing the disgraceful assault on a comedian.

In the weekend episode, the Oscars slap got mentioned several times with host Jerrod Carmichael saying in his monologue, “I’ve talked about it enough. Kept talking about it. Kept thinking about it. I don’t wanna talk about it. You can’t make me talk about it.” Later in a sketch, Jerrod Carmichael portrayed the role of a seat filler in the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. He manages to sit right next to Will Smith who is played by actor Chris Redd. Then during the show, Carmichael’s character tells Smith’s character that he is a big fan and requests a selfie, after which Chris Rock jokes which seems to infuriate Will.

During Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che discussed about the incident with Jost joking about the slap saying that it set a dangerous “precedent for having to defend your wife at award show”. Che joined in, adding, “Love will make you do crazy things. You know what also makes you do crazy things? Crazy.”
