Priyanka Chopra, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber etc expressed heartfelt tributes to eminent French photographer Patrick Demarchelier who died at the age of 78. Many celebrities of the fashion and entertainment industries expressed sadness over the death of the legendary photographer who worked for many iconic fashion magazines, also taking pictures of Princess Diana. In her Instagram story, actress Priyanka Chopra posted a picture of herself doing a professional photoshoot with Patrick Demarchelier and writing, “Your legacy is timeless. RIP Patrick Demarchelier. An absolute honour to have worked with you.” Other popular models such as Cindy Crawford as well as Emily Ratajkowski also shared heartfelt tributes to Patrick Demarchelier by posting their pictures which were clicked by him.
Hailey Bieber shared a photograph of herself with Demarchelier in her Instagram story, writing, “Rest in peace incredible @patrickdemarchelier”. Model Bella Hadid posted her Vogue magazine cover which was shot by him and wrote, “I am grateful to have been lucky enough to be in front of your lens. Most gentle, most legendary, soft but full of life. You will be missed, Patrick. Rest In Peace.”
The news of the photographer’s demise was announced by his official Instagram account in a statement which reads, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31st, 2022, at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Mia, his three sons Gustaf, Arthur, Victor and three granchildren.”
Patrick Demarchelier was Princess Diana’s favourite photographer and he shot many iconic photos of the late royal such as the one picture where Princess Diana is seen hugging her knees while wearing a white straplees dress and a tiara and also the one where she is wearing a black turtleneck. His other iconic works also include those of Madonna whose famous photograph of her wearing a black cap and holding a cigarette in her mouth was shot by Demarchelier. Throughout his career he worked with many famous models including Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista and also with remarkable celebrities of Hollywood such as Robert DeNiro, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie and Oprah. His name came up many times in the film “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006) starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, the movie was based on the fashion industry in America.
In 2018, Patrick Demarchelier’s name came up in the #MeToo movemet when The Boston Globe did a story on seven women who came forward with accusations of sexual harassment against him including his former assistant.
