In terms of news, Virgin River fans have been left in the dark for the past few months, with the only update being that filming on the upcoming fifth season has been postponed. Finally, things appear to be moving forward, with the fifth season of Virgin River set to begin filming in July 2022. Here are some of the first details.
Here’s a quick rundown for those unfamiliar with Virgin River or perplexed as to why we’re talking about season 5 when season 4 hasn’t even been released.
Virgin River is a feel-good series based on the Robyn Carr novels that premiered in 2019. Three seasons of the show, starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, have been released on Netflix.
The third season, which was released on Netflix on July 8, 2021, was the most recent.
The show has consistently performed well on Netflix, resulting in early season renewals almost every season. We found out in September that the show will return for a fourth and fifth season. Filming for Season 4 was completed just before Christmas, and it is now complete.
Season 4 has yet to be given a release date, but it has been confirmed for 2022. Then it’s on to season 5. Alexandra Breckenridge stated that filming was originally scheduled to begin in March 2022, but that it had been pushed back.
Filming is now set to begin on July 1st, 2022, and run until November 30th, 2022, according to new production schedules seen by What’s on Netflix. This equates to approximately 5 months of total filming time.
Of course, we should point out that filming dates are always subject to change, as things like script changes, casting, and other factors all play a role in getting production started.
We don’t know much about Virgin River season 5 yet because we haven’t seen season 4, but we do know that Sue Tenney is expected to return as showrunner.
If you’re wondering where Season 5 of Virgin River will be shot, we’ll most likely be returning to some of the same locations we’ve seen in previous seasons. The show is almost entirely shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
