Kim Kardashian clarifies her remark

Kim Kardashian apologised for a contentious statement she gave regarding women in business during an interview with a prominent magazine. During a sit-down interview with the host of “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts, Kim Kardashian addressed her comments which she made while speaking to Variety on March 9th about her and her family’s upcoming reality tv show called “The Kardashians”. While talking about the show, Kardashian expressed her advice to women who want to be successful in business, saying, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f****ng **s and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

Soon, her remark received severe backlash on social media, ABC News anchor Robin Roberts said to her that many people criticised Kardashian for her privilege and how that facilitated in Skim’s founder achieving success. However, Kardashian told Roberts that her statement was “taken out of context” and she is “really sorry” if it was interpreted as denying the hard work of women in business. Kardashian said to Robert, “That statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it. In that soundbite, I came off of the notion in the question right before, which was, ‘After 20 years of being in the business, you’re famous for being famous.’ And my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about, ‘what advice would you give to women.’ “

Kardashian clarified that she was talking about the factors of fame and social media presence in her business achievements, telling, “The advice that I would give is just that having a social media presence and being on a reality show does not mean overnight success. You have to really work hard to get there, even if it might seem like it’s easy and that you can build a really successful business off of social media, and you can if you put in a lot of hard work. And it wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard. I know that they do.”

Kim Kardashian’s remark made it to the 94th Academy Awards as well, during a segment on “consolation prizes” for actors and actresses who didn’t win in their respective nominated categories host Regina Hall made a joke that she has an “inspirational quote” from Kim Kardashian which she wants to give to Judi Dench, saying, “Work harder: That’s what we need you to do”, while Hall’s cohost Wanda Sykes also joining in, “You’ve gotta move that **s, dame.” Judi Dench lost the award to West Side Story’s actor Ariana Debose.
