‘Sanditon’ is a British historical drama series inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Starring Rose Williams and Theo James, the series is created by ‘Andrew Davies‘ and is a Regency-era period drama that follows the story of a young and naive heroine, Charlotte Heywood as she navigates the new seaside resort of Sanditon. Sanditon season 2 was premiered on March 20, 2022, and will air new episodes by Sunday, April 24 on PBS. The first season of the show was released in 2019.

In season 2 of the show Charlotte (Rose Williams) comes back to the seaside resort of Sanditon. This time she brings her younger sister Alison (Rosie Graham) and the show proceeds with Charlotte struggling to find her place in the world. Williams in an interview mentioned that it is nice to have Rosie on the set and they get on really well. She said that in season 2 even though Charlotte is pushing Alison away, their offscreen relationship is still exciting and fun. Theo James’ character played by Sidney Parker is missing this season. His character in the show has died so does any hopes of him returning in another season. Although his absence in the show is noticeable it is interesting to watch Charlotte wrestle with her grief and become stronger to face the world outside.

When asked by Rose Williams in an interview about the exit of Sidney Parker from the show and what she thinks about it she said that even after his exit from the show the grief will definitely show his presence. She added that it is not appropriate to eradicate the character instantly from the show. Season 2 introduced Charlotte’s two new young love interests, Colonel Lennox and Mr. Colbourne. Williams revealed that there may be a love angle between Charlotte and Colonel Lennox. She added that Charlotte at this moment is not searching for love, her main focus is to gain independence and this might be the reason she liked Lennox. As for Colbourne, he is a protective and caring father. Charlotte’s interest in these two men is not mostly out of love, she just wants to learn from them.
