Jamie Dornan got saucy at the 16th Annual US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards. The actor was being honoured on March 25th at The Ebell Club in Los Angeles for his work in Belfast (2021), an autobiographical film based on an Irish working-class family in the 60s. During his speech Dornan said that earlier people who won awards received reels which contain remarkable aspects from their acting careers.

He then chose to improvise, saying, “In the absence of a reel. I’m just going to act out my entire career. Only the things you know best”. Jamie Dornan then took out a pair of handcuffs in a reference to his Fifty Shades of Grey movies. He joked while holding the handcuffs, “I’m going to need a participant from the audience.”

Dornan has a succesful acting career. Apart from his notable roles in Belfast and Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, he did movies and shows such as The Fall (2013-2016), Anthropid (2016), The Tourist (2022) and The Siege of Jadotville (2016). He also voiced in an animated film called Trolls World Tour (2020). Dornan, while speaking to People Magazine on the green carpet before the Oscar Wilde Awards ceremony, said that he was initially “slightly non-committal in a good way” by not quickly settling in America as he gained a position in the Hollywood. Jamie recalled, “It was always just come out, spend a lot of time here, take on a load of meetings. So the longest I ever did was probably four or five months or something, maybe even three or four months, to be honest, in the early days.”

The movie star noted that it took some “self-worth” to reach at this stage in his career and he is happy with his success, “My whole ethos in life is, ‘Back yourself’, so I guess I backed myself to be able to make something happen and I always felt I had something to offer…things needed to fall into place, and you need a bit of luck in this time.”

Jamie Dornan also told People that he is proud of the message he gave via his latest movie Belfast. Belfast is nominated in this year’s 94th Academy Awards in seven categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound and Best Supporting Actress. Dornan told, “I am just beyond proud to be from that part of the world and to tell a story that resonated with so many people across the world, and maybe change some people’s opinion of that part of the world, in the north of Ireland and Belfast, and the people and the hard-working families.”
