The news of collaboration between Snoop Dogg and BTS has been confirmed by the hip hop star himself. On the red carpet for the premiere of his and Kelly Clarkson’s show “American Song Contest”, Snoop Dogg said that he and widely popular K-pop group BTS are considering creating music together. The news of collaboration between Snoop Dogg and BTS has excited fans since January, when he revealed that BTS had reached out to him for working together.
Dogg said to The A.V. Club, “I’m going to let them tell you about it”, confirming the news stating, “It’s official like a referee with a whistle. I love that entertainment world. It’s good music. It’s vibe.” Meanwhile, Billboard sent a request to BTS for comment, so far there is no response from them.
The seven-member Korean boy band have been fans of the American rapper for years. BTS mentioned Snoop’s 1993 album titled “Doggystyle” in their track “Hip Hop Phile” of their 2014 album “Dark & Wild”. And in 2015, BTS’s member RM worked with another prominent rapper called Warren G who has collaborated with Dogg several times. RM and Warren G worked together on a song called “P.D.D”.
Earlier in January, Snoop Dogg revealed on the Mogul Talk podcast that he recieved a request from K-pop artists to work together. Narrating to the hosts, “I got a group named BTS that’s waiting on me to do a song with them right now. And I’m trying to figure out if I got time to do that shit.” The “Young, Wild & Free” track singer was unaware of the popularity of BTS and asked his nephew for more information on the boy-band, Dogg added, “He showed me five m***********ers who look like the Asian New Edition. I said okay.”
Although Snoop Dogg is not oblivious to the world of K-pop because earlier he had worked with South Korean girl groups Girls Generation and 2NE1 and he also appeared in singer Psy’s (internationally famous for “Gangnam Style”) track called “Hangover” in 2014. Speaking to The A.V. Club, Snoop told, “I’ve been experiencing the K-pop experience for a long time, connected to the music world and scene. I got a record with a group called 2NE1 back in the day. Come on now, it’s what I do.”
