A Supernatural Thriller K-Drama Exploring Creepy Mysteries: Monstrous(2022), Teaser Has Been Released!

A supernatural horror thriller Korean series called Monstrous will be released this year. In the teaser, viewers will see the ascertaining of a big statue and its subsequent excavation. The statue is not what it appears to be. After its excavation, the statue is considered to be possessed by a ghost and it hurts those who look directly into its eyes. Unfortunately, those people never remain the same because it is believed that they get trapped in hell. The storyline is about a man named Jung Ki Hoon who is an archaeologist who explores supernatural occurrences and phenomena and also runs a Youtube channel. Hoon is also founder of a magazine which he publishes every month, documenting his discoveries. Shin Hyun Bin is playing the role of his former wife, who is a cryptanalyst and is now confronted by a strange mysterious phenomena. After the death of her daughter, Bin visits Jinyang City and examines the statue.

Monstrous represents the powerful performance of a talented cast and explores the genre of horror-thriller in Korean drama industry. It will narrate the stories of individuals who have been cursed by the statue and the protagonist, happens to be an archaeologist, will uncover the reason for such unexplained secrets. Writer Ryu Yong Jae and director/writer Yeon Sang-ho collaborate again after working together in Peninsula, 2020. Yong Jae wrote My Holo Love, 2020, Psychopath Diary, 2018 and is also writing the Korean version of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist). Yeon Sang-ho directed films such as Train To Busan, 2016, Psychokinesis, 2018 and The King of Pigs, 2011.

Jang Kun-jae is the director of Monstrous. Kun-jae has directed movies like Sleepless Night, 2012 and his debuted film Eighteen, 2009 won an award at the Vancouver International Film Festival’s Dragons and Tigers Award. He also won an award at the Busan Film Critics Association. Koo Kyo Hwan, known for Escape From Mogadishu, 2021 and Maggie, 2018, will play the protagonist as an archaeologist seeking answers whereas Shin Hyun Bin, an actress known for Mistress, 2018, will portray a divorced woman who has recently lost her daughter and whose former husband is into occult stuff. Then Kim Ji Young, Revenge Note 2 fame, will play the character of Han Seok Young who is a police officer who is trying to protect her son. And her son’s role will be portrayed by actor Nam Da-reum.
