Jessica Biel revived her career in 2017 with a series called The Sinner, which she produced and starred as the protagonist and it led to her securing an Emmy Awards nomination in 2018. Later she starred in a series called Limetown which was adapted from a podcast and was based on the real life disappearance of three hundred people in Tennessee, America. Now, Jessica Biel is entering into the true cold crime domain with a new show called Candy, she is going to portray one of the most notorious murderers in America named Candy Montgomery. The true crime fans will relate it with “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” or “Jim Melgar murder case”. Candy Montogomery was a woman who in June, 1980 murdered her neighbor Betty Gore and was acquitted at the much publicized trial.

The main reason why Montgomery was found not guilty is that a psychiatrist ascribed her brutality to “dissociative reaction” and argued that Montgomery was not aware of the number of times she had hit Gore. Candy Montgomery hit Betty Gore with a ax for over forty times and kept striking her even after she fell unconscious. Initial reporting on the case originates from Texas Monthly, a magazine, as well as journalists Jim Atkinson and John Bloom. The story will comprise of an extra-marital affair, a harrowing slaying, Texas housewives, 80s, a controversial trial, in fact this case was so ghastly that there are two shows based on Candy Montgomery which are going to be released this year. With Candy coming first, Jessica Biel will be playing the perpetrator Montgomery and Melanie Lynskey will portray the victim Betty Gore.

HBO Max is also going to release a show based on this case, it is called Love and Death. Elizabeth Olsen, best known for Martha Marcy May Marlene, 2011 and Sorry For Your Loss, 2018, will star as Candy and Lily Rabe of Fractured, 2019 and The Tender Bar, 2021 fame will play Betty. But even before these two shows, in 1990 a movie called “A Killing in a Small Town” was released, directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal who happens to be the father of Jake Gyllenhaal, based on this case starring Barbara Hershey for which she went on to win an Emmy.

Jessia Biel is a very talented actress, she has earlier played uptight roles such as in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2003. Her “Hey y’all” greeting in the film is perfectly depicting the southern accent. The teaser trailer has been released and it shows Biel in curly hair and large rimmed-glasses. The show will premiere on Hulu app.
