2

Season 4 of Virgin River has finished filming and will be available on Netflix in 2022. Season 5 is also in the works, with production set to begin in 2022. Here’s a rundown of everything we know about Virgin River season 4 so far, including the plot, production updates, cast, and more!
Editor’s note: Although this preview was first published in July 2021, it has been updated monthly to reflect new developments, with the most recent update occurring in February 2022.
Before we get into the series’ future, let’s do a quick recap. Virgin River is a drama series based on the novels of Robyn Carr.

Mel, a young midwife and nurse practitioner, relocates from the big city to a small rustic town in Northern California.
Throughout the show’s three seasons, we’ve seen Mel meet a variety of different people in the town as she establishes her roots, as well as plenty of drama.
Season 1 debuted on Netflix in December 2019, with subsequent seasons following in November 2020 and, most recently, in July 2021.
Netflix confirmed to USA Today on September 20th that season 4 would go ahead, and that the show would return for a season 5 on Netflix as well. Multi-season orders are uncommon on Netflix, but they are a testament to the series’ popularity.

The best part is that Colin announced that season 4 would be even longer than previous seasons. The season 4 episode count for Virgin River has been increased from 10 to 12.
Earlier in 2021, we reported that several production listings indicated that the show would return for a fourth season. Even better, we later learned that season 4 filming would begin at the end of July 2021. The show is entirely filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
Lauren Morris of RadioTimes spoke with Tim Matheson, who plays Vernon Doc. This interview took place shortly after the season 3 premiere, and it confirmed our reports that filming would begin “any day now.”

Filming was scheduled to wrap on November 30th, 2021, and posts on the show’s Instagram page have confirmed that it has.
Fans of the show should not be surprised by the show’s quick renewal. Seasons 2 and 3 were previously renewed ahead of their Netflix premieres. This was especially true for season 3, which was shot concurrently with the release of season 2.
According to newly released viewing hour figures, the show received over a quarter of a billion hours of viewing on the platform between July 4th, 2021 and August 15th, 2021. It was watched on Netflix for 255,120,000 hours during the time period mentioned above.
