Netflix will produce Demon House, a feature film based on the haunting story of Latoya Ammons and her family, which was widely reported in the US back in 2014. Andra Day will play the lead role in the film.
Lee Daniels, who will direct the horror film, rewrote the script from earlier drafts. Empire, Star, Good People, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday are among his credits. Netflix is said to have paid a hefty sum of $65 million for the film’s rights.

Turn Left Productions’ Todd Crites and Jackson Nguyen, as well as EPs Greg Renker and Gregoire Gensollen, are also producing alongside Daniels. Everything else we know about Netflix’s Demon House is as follows:
The thriller is based on the life of Latoya Ammons and her family, whose life rights allowed this film to be made. They claim to be victims of a demonic possession that has lasted two years and counting. Ammons and her family have received international media attention for their accounts, which have been witnessed and documented by the Department of Child Services (DCS), the Gary (Indiana) Police Department, and hospital personnel.

Over two years ago, she began to notice strange things in her home, such as swarms of flies around her porch in the winter and unexplained creaking sounds in her basement. Her oldest daughter unconsciously levitated above her bed, and medical personnel witnessed her middle son gliding backward on the floor, wall, and ceiling.
The DCS case manager, according to Relativity, saw her youngest son growling with his teeth showing and his eyes rolled back, locking his hands around his older brother’s throat with no recollection of the incident. Initial psychological examinations and exorcism attempts failed to explain or resolve the strange events.

Latoya Ammons, the main character in this story, will be played by singer/songwriter Andra Day. After starring as legendary four-time Grammy winner Billie Holiday in the 2021 film The United States vs. Billie Holiday, this is Day’s second major film project. Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures, The Help), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, The Wife), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Daredevil), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), and Aunjanue Ellis (Stranger Things) will appear alongside Day (King Richard, Lovecraft Country).

Demon House, a Netflix original series, was in pre-production in February 2022 and was set to begin filming in March 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Demon House has yet to be given a release date by Netflix, but given that production began in March 2022, we can probably expect it to arrive in the first half of 2023.
