The Adam Project is a science-fiction film and stars Ryan Reynolds in the lead role. Written by Jonathan Tropper (Warrior, 2019), T.S. Nowlin (Maze Runner), Jennifer Flackett (Little Manhattan, 2005) and Mark Levin (Big Mouth, 2017), the film reminds of classics such as ET, Back To The Future. The Adam Project is part of a series of original films Netflix has announced it is going to release each week this year. Considering the popularity of Ryan Reynolds the majority of reviews are positive.
In 2050, time-travelling fighter pilot 40 year old Adam Reed (Ryan Reynolds) manages to land on earth in the backyard of the house of his younger self in the year 2022 after stealing a fighter jet to rescue his wife Laura (Zoe Saldana) and teams up with his 12 year old self (Walker Scobell) to save the future from Maya Sorian (Catherine Keener), an evil capitalist trying to conquer the world. After the death of his dad Louis (Mark Ruffalo), a scientist who invented the time-travel machine, younger Adam is bullied in school and gets suspended after a fight. With his mother Ellie (Jennifer Garner) going on a date, Adam alone at home with his dog stumbles upon a stranger lurking in his garage. After confirming that the stranger knows everything about him, he realises that the stranger is the older version of him who arrived from the future. Soon, the two become friends and the older Adam teaches the younger how to deal with his bullies.
Other prominent actors in the film include Mark Ruffalo (Begin Again, 2013, Shutter Island, 2010), Jennifer Garner (13 Going On 30, 2004, Elektra, 2005) and Zoe Saldana (Colombiana, 2011, Avatar, 2009). Shawn Levy is the director of the film, he is known for creating Night At The Museum, Real Steel, The Internship. Levy and Reynolds have worked together in a film called Free Guy last year and with Netflix Levy has created several episodes of Stranger Things.
Two decades ago, Ryan Reynolds started his quest to become one of Hollywood’s most adorable actors with the release of his film titled “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder”. It worked, masses loved it whereas critics not so much. And with a couple of superhero movies, buddy films, animated content and romantic performances under his belt, he managed to generate millions of fans all over the world. The Adam Project is fun and will keep the audience glued as the director has experience of making entertaining comedy-action movies. In the end, the plot is usual and concept similar, so its just another sci-fic which the viewers will enjoy.
