Pennywise: The Story Of It releasing in US this summer

A new documentary based on the history and creation of one of the most iconic villain on screen Pennywise: The Story Of It is going to be released in US in Summer 2022. The well-known antagonist from the horror miniseries IT, Pennywise, the Clown is going to be the centre of the documentary which is about the character’s history and inception.

‘It’ was originally created by Stephan King for the book of the same name. The story has been seen on screen twice, for a 1990 miniseries and in 2017 movie with a sequel in 2019, the roles were played by Bill Skarsgard and Tim Curry. The both films grossing combined was round about $1.1 billion along with critics’ positive reviews.

It portrays the story of a demonic entity that reappears in every 27 years to feed of the fears of children using reality bending powers and whacking shape-shifting to terrify its victims. To adapt King’s original It novel as on screen story is proven to be quite difficult as the novel is over about 1100 pages with a bucket full of characters following two different time periods’ story. King’s took inspiration from the most obvious fear of children, Clowns.

Pennywise: The Story Of It will be a Cinedigm distribution. The Chief Content’s officer, Yolanda Macias mentioned, “From red balloons to yellow rain jackets, the ground-breaking miniseries pushed boundaries and still has a lasting impact on the genre to this day. Even three decades after its release, It and the child-eating clown Pennywise scares audiences of all ages. We are excited to take horror fans on this terrifying journey back to the not so sleepy town of Derry.”

The documentary will feature interviews with the people who have worked on the miniseries, describing the creation of Tim Curry’s character creation. Pennywise: The Story Of It is going to be John Campopiano and Christopher Griffiths’ direction, who previously have worked on the horror genre series.
