A Series That Will Keep You On Edge: The Tourist

Jamie Dornan The Tourist 1539804

HBO’s The Tourist, a thriller show with good dialogues and engaging screenplay, resembles Fargo. Starring Jamie Dornan of Fifty Shades of Grey fame as the protagonist, the story focuses on an unknown unnamed man who is driving around a remote location of Australia. He stops at a gas station for washroom, talk a bit with the cashier and starts driving again. While driving he notices a high speed truck in his rearview mirror advancing on him, he tries to avoid it but soon realises that the person behind the truck is trying to murder him. Unsuccessful in outdriving the truck, he suffers a motor crash and later winds up in a hospital having no recollection of his identity or what happened to him.Soon after, a small town cop named Helen Chambers emerges and gets involved with the case of this good looking Caucasian man injured in the hospital. When the protagonist comes across a note in his pocket with a location and time written on it, he goes to Burnt Ridge which is a small town and meets a woman named Luci who may know something about his past, he stumbles upon a madman who wants to kill him and ultimately receives a call from someone who is buried in the ground. The viewers will enjoy his various encounters with a number of characters including a quirky pilot, a Greek gangster and a cowboy who happened to be a hitman.

Luci and Helen are two important characters in The Tourist. Helen, played by Danielle Macdonald, is a rookie police officer with an awful fiance who taunts her for her weight. Known for her role in Patti Cakes$, Macdonald’s performance sets her apart.

Written by Williams brothers Jack and Harry, who are known for Fleabag (2016) and The Missing (2014-16), this amazing six-part thriller series not only keeps the viewers making theories but also has the protagonist wonder what is really going on. After his role of a creepy capitalist in Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan has impressed us with his mature performance and rough looks. This is also one of the best works of Dornan’s career as without diving into the cliched style of a lost soul, he portrayed the role of the protagonist who is on a quest to uncover whether he is a good or bad person with much sincerity. What The Tourist is about is suspense and giving any hint will be a spoiler for the viewers, the show is a blend of Spielberg’s Duel and Fargo’s season 1. The show begins with a simple story and ends with so much complications and twists.
