KFKD

“The Purge” is a popular among American entertainment. First came the movie then came the series. It is based on a very bizarre and irrational concept i.e. a period of time is announced by the government where any crime is legal for several hours. As stupid as it may sound, many people enjoy watching it. The theme of “The Purge” is a group of good characters who have nothing to do with the violence and a vicious world outside trying its best to harm them.

In the series too, the same scenario is played out where people from different walks of life are united in their purpose for a day i.e. to ensure that they and their loves ones are able to survive. Miguel Guerrero is one of the most adored characters of this show. Miguel is a soldier in US Marine Corps and is back in his hometown desperately searching for his sister Penelope Guerrero who has joined a cult. Having lost both of his parents in last year’s Purge, we the audience feel a deep sense sympathy for him as Penelope is the only family he has got. As the show proceeds, we get to see the unparalleled courage on the part of Miguel who despite knowing that he can get shot or stabbed is roaming on the streets searching for his sister with just a pistol.

On his unpredictable journey Miguel stumbles upon many people who try to either obstruct or facilitate in his search. We gets to witness not only the muscle power but also the ability of this character to talk his way out of getting lynched by a mob or persuading an ex-cop in helping him look for Penelope. Another striking quality in Miguel’s character is his countless attempts in convincing Penelope who is depressed and suicidal that ending her life is not going to achieve anything other than excruciating anguish. He also crosses paths with other characters, several of whom owe their lives to Miguel for his unprecedented heroism.

In the end of the show, Miguel’s character makes viewers happy as it restores the belief that eventually good prevails over evil and love conquers hate. The show makes a good conclusion as it demonstrates the kindness of Miguel and Penelope who in the next year’s Purge have decided to help the injured and vulnerable.
