Oscar Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino as of late affirmed that he will score the impending MCU installment, Thor: Love and Thunder. Coordinated by Marvel veteran Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder sees Chris Hemsworth returning as the nominal God of Thunder, notwithstanding recognizable characters like Jane Foster and Valkyrie. Giacchino is absolutely no stranger to working with Marvel Studios, having composed the soundtracks for features like Doctor Strange and the Tom Holland-drove Spider-Man films, including the following week’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As of late, Giacchino reported that he will form the score for Thor: Love and Thunder. The impending film marks his fifth collaboration with Marvel Studios yet will be his first time handling a Thor-related task. Giacchino took to Twitter to share the interesting news, stating “Me getting my next assignment” alongside a GIF of Thor. His full tweet can be perused beneath:
The impending MCU installment is a long way from the first blockbuster on Giacchino’s resume. In 2010, he snagged an Oscar win for his work on Disney-Pixar’s Up. Since then, he’s created the score for significant franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, and more as of late, the DCEU’s profoundly anticipated activity flick, The Batman. Thor: Love and Thunder also reunites Giacchino and Waititi, who’ve cooperated before on 2019’s widely praised Jojo Rabbit.
Interestingly, every one of the MCU’s three Thor movies have had various composers. 2011’s Thor featured music by Patrick Doyle, and Brian Tyler took over on its sequel, Thor: The Dark World in 2013. Mark Mothersbaugh then scored Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. In view of this, it’ll be interesting to see how Giacchino puts his own spin on the soundtrack and the Thor universe overall. For the time being, fans can listen for Giacchino’s score in Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, in front of Thor: Love and Thunder, which arrives in theaters next July.
