Harnaaz Sandhu of India creates history by being crowned Miss Universe 2021. It’s a historic day for the country, as the championship is returned to the country 21 years after Lara Dutta won it in 2000. The 21-year-old from Punjab represented India at the 70th edition of the pageant, which was held in Eilat, Israel on December 12th.
Harnaaz is a 21-year-old model from Chandigarh, where she attended high school and college. She’s been in the profession for a long time and has a long list of pageant titles to her credit. Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange are two Punjabi films in which she has appeared.
Harnaaz won the Times Fresh Face Miss Chandigarh 2017 pageant, as well as Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018 and Femina Miss India Punjab 2019.
Andrea Meza, a past title owner from Mexico, presented Sandhu with the crown at the event, which was live-streamed around the world. Sandhu had to beat out contestants from Paraguay and South Africa to win the championship.

You are your own person with your own voice. Sandhu said, “I believed in myself, and that is why I am standing here today.”
Before Harnaaz Sandhu and Lara Dutta created history by being the first Indian woman to win Miss Universe over 27 years ago, Sushmita Sen made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win Miss Universe. Priyanka Chopra, who won Miss World in 2000, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who won Miss India in 1994, are two more Bollywood beauty queens who have won pageants.
