Fashion for Good, a Dutch innovation platform, has announced the beginning of Polyester, which aims to grow chemical recycling solutions and support finance and implementation into the wider sector.

Polyester accounts for 52% of the worldwide fibre market, prevalent fibre in the world, according to the organisation. It also accounts for 73% of textile waste that is either landfilled or burnt, which raises environmental issues because of its inability to decompose. Fashion for Good, on the other hand, believes that chemical recycling holds the answer to the problem.

Katrin Ley, Fashion for Good’s managing director, noted in a press release that “Textile recycling is a core emphasis.” Now that we have proven that a strong consortium of stakeholders from all sectors can actually move the needle, we can apply these lessons and steps to scale to another vital area: textile-to-textile polyester recycling.”

Brands, inventors, are among the project’s collaborators, and everyone has a role to play in helping it grow. For the 18-month initiative, it has also appealed for the participation of worldwide innovators working on the chemical recycling of polyester and the creation of recovered polyester, employed in garment manufacturing.

They went on to say the following: “Throughout it all, his unwavering work ethic, insatiable curiosity, and boundless optimism were unwavering features of his character. Virgil’s passion for art and design was fueled by a desire to help others and open doors for more equality in the field. For him, the potential of art to uplift future generations was paramount, as he frequently declared, “Everything I produce is for myself when I was 17.”

New polyester-based project is linked to the Full Circle Textiles effort, which was established in 2020 and focuses on cellulosic chemical recycling, as well. Participating innovators were able to demonstrate their innovations and make clothing.
