Antoine Fuqua Signs First-Look Film Deal with Netflix Through New Banner Hill District Media

Antoine Fuqua has formed a new creative partnership with Netflix which will specialise on feature and documentary films.

The multi-project agreement follows the streaming premiere of “The Guilty,” whose star Jake Gyllenhaal is currently on the awards circuit. Fuqua will carry out the agreement as both a director and a producer thru the his newly renamed production house, Hill District Media.

“Working with Netflix on ‘The Guilty’ was such a rewarding experience, both artistically and collaboratively,” Fuqua said to Variety. “I’m beyond excited to continue this relationship and expand our slate of films with a partner at Hill District Media who shares our vision.”

Fuqua, according to Tendo Nagenda, vice president of Netflix Film, is a “impactful storyteller who believes art can create meaningful change in the world.” We had a fantastic time working with him on ‘The Guilty,’ and we hope to tell many more stories together in the future.”

Action classics such as the “Equalizer” franchise, “Shooter,” and “Training Day” are among Fuqua’s credits. He’s currently working on a number of scripted and non-scripted projects, including “Emancipation,” a record-breaking $130 million Cannes film package sold to Apple starring Will Smith; Amazon’s “The Terminal List,” starring Chris Pratt; and an untitled docuseries about the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fuqua is also an executive producer on the current Paramount Plus series “Mayor of Kingstown,” as well as the upcoming Sony Pictures ensemble thriller “Bullet Train,” which stars Brad Pitt. LBI Entertainment represents him.
