Bob Saget

In a heartfelt video, Bob Saget remembers his dear friend, the late Norm Macdonald, and reveals the final conversation the two shared. Macdonald passed away on September fourteenth after a 10-year fight with an undisclosed form of cancer. A beloved Canadian-born humorist, Macdonald started out on SNL as the host of the Weekend Update segment and become known for his biting mind and no-holds-barred style of parody.

In a new video presented on his YouTube channel, Saget reflected on Macdonald’s life and affectionately remembered their time together. After explaining how the two met one another, Saget proceeded to ricochet around various affectionate memories he had of Norm throughout the years. “He was one of the main individuals in my day to day existence and one of the sweetest. What’s more, we loved one another,” Saget says, tearfully. Saget would then proceed to reveal the last interaction he had with Macdonald. Read one of Saget’s statements and check out the full video underneath:

“Two weeks prior, he texted me ‘How are you? What’s going on with you? Are you doing stand-up?’ And I answered him with excessively many words. And afterward I didn’t hear back. And afterward last week I got a text and it just said ‘I love you.’ And I didn’t say much back. I recently said: ‘I love you, Norm.’ And that was my last correspondence with him.”

Saget’s video is the most heartfelt and most moving tribute to Macdonald up until this point, since it clearly comes from somebody who was a genuine friend to the man. In spite of the fact that he recognizes that Macdonald often went to a position of darkness as an entertainer, the picture he paints of Macdonald is that of a brilliant and kind man, operating at a level of satire that was above nearly everyone else. One of the most telling indications of his virtuoso is the respect he garnered from other entertainers, as evidenced by the tributes they have recently shared praising Macdonald’s brilliance.
