Selena Gomez expressed her appreciation towards her best friend Francia Raisa, for donating her kidney.

Selena discussed her kidney transplant surgery, which she underwent in 2017 due to life-threatening health issues caused by complications from lupus, during an appearance on the newest episode of Apple TV+’s documentary series “Dear….,”

“My best friend. Her name is Francia. She said, No, I am absolutely getting tested,” Gomez said, “And within three days, she went to get tested, and she was a match. And it was one of those moments where I felt watched over. I know I was so so so lucky. I understand that that doesn’t happen for a lot of people, and I know the outcome of some of those situations and how serious they are, so I do not take it lightly that it’s happened to me that way.”

The ‘Rare’ beauty added, “I will never ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming.”

Selena Gomez shared a thread written by her friend Francia Raisa in honor of World Kidney Day on her social media page back in March 2021, nearly four years after she received Francia’s kidney.

“If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’ve kept my kidney donation process pretty private. However, I think I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I feel comfortable and confident in speaking about my experience and using my platform to raise awareness for the various kidney diseases that affect our population,” Francia wrote back then.

Selena Gomez talks about getting affected by body-shaming comments

Selena also opened up about how body-shaming comments take a toll on her. “I lied. I would go online and I would post a picture and I would say, ‘It doesn’t matter. I’m not accepting what you’re saying,’” she said. “I was posting these things saying it doesn’t bother me because I didn’t want it to bother other people who are experiencing the same thing.”

“Getting shamed for what they look like, who they are, who they love, I just think it’s so unfair. I don’t think that anybody deserves less than. I was being shamed for gaining weight because of my lupus,” she added.
