Prince Harry spoke in a live-streamed conversation with author Dr Gabor Maté about how he always felt different to the rest of his family, same like his mum.
“I certainly have felt throughout my life, my younger years, I felt slightly different to the rest of my family. I felt strange being in this container, and I know that my mum felt the same so it makes sense to me. It didn’t make sense at the time, I felt as though my body was in there, but my head was out and sometimes it was vice versa,” he said.
Harry also spoke about going to therapy. “One of the things I was most scared about was losing the feelings that I had of my mum. I thought that if I went to therapy it would kill me and that I would lose whatever I had left, whatever I managed to hold onto of my mother and it turns out that wasn’t the case. I didn’t lose that – it was the opposite,” he shared.
“”I turned what I thought was supposed to be sadness to try and prove to her that I missed her into realising she just really wanted me to be happy, and that was a huge weight off my chest,” he added.
Harry talks about smothering his kids with love and affection
The Duke also talked about parenting. “It leaves me in the position now, as a father of two kids of my own, to make sure that I smother them with love and affection. Not smother them to the point where they’re trying to get away and I’m like, ‘No, come here I need to hug you,” he said.
Prince Harry further added, “I, as a father, feel a huge responsibility that I don’t pass on any traumas, or any I guess negative experiences, that I’ve had as a kid or as a man growing up, and that’s work. That’s putting in the work and that’s daily being cautious of my behaviour and my reactions to both of my kids.”
