Peter Dinklage’s passion project is coming to life as Tubi has revealed that it has started producing a dark Western thriller titled “The Thicket,” based on Joe R. Lansdale’s novel of the same name. Dinklage is both producing and starring in the film, which will feature Juliette Lewis from “Yellowjackets.” Filming has already begun in Calgary, Canada. The stars seem to be aligning perfectly for Dinklage as his dreams are coming true with this exciting project.
According to Deadline, “The Thicket” is about a young man named Jack who embarks on an adventurous journey to save his sister Lula from the clutches of a notorious killer named Cut Throat Bill and his gang. In order to rescue her, Jack seeks the aid of a resourceful bounty hunter named Reginald Jones, a son of an ex-slave who drinks heavily and works as a grave digger, and a savvy prostitute. The group tracks Cut Throat Bill into a dangerous area called The Big Thicket, where violence and anarchy prevail.
Dinklage has been passionate about this movie project for a long time, even before he played Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” He has expressed his enthusiasm for bringing Joe Lansdale’s gripping story to the big screen, calling it a “journey into the heart of darkness to find love and return it to its rightful place.” Despite a previous project being halted by the pandemic and it taking nearly a decade, Dinklage is excited that the movie is finally being made.
Tubi’s Chief Content Officer, Adam Lewinson, expressed his excitement for the film and getting the project started with everyone involved. As Tubi expands its focus to various genres, Lewinson is thrilled to begin production on “The Thicket,” which has been a passion project for many of the individuals involved. With a talented team of artists, including Peter Dinklage, the movie promises to exceed genre expectations and provide a distinctive and captivating journey into The Thicket.
“The Thicket” will be directed by Elliot Lester, with Christopher Kelly writing the screenplay. In addition to Dinklage and Lewis, the movie will feature a talented cast that includes Esme Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Leslie Grace, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Macon Blair, Ned Dennehy, Andrew Schulz, Arliss Howard, James Hetfield from Metallica. Dinklage is producing the film alongside Tubi Films, Nomadic Pictures’ Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev, Estuary Films’ David Ginsberg, Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari, The Exchange’s Caddy Vanasirikul and Brian O’Shea, and MiLu Entertainment’s Andre L III. Production is already underway.
