Recently, fresh images of the movie remake of Road House, which stars the Academy Award-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal and former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor, were made public. The filming of the 1989 hit’s new version commenced in August, and while its release date is yet to be disclosed, audiences have been receiving sneak peeks of what the film has in store for them.
McGregor is making his acting debut in Road House, and he recently shared pictures on Twitter of himself in the clear blue waters of the Dominican Republic, where the movie is being filmed. The snapshots depict McGregor, also known as “Notorious,” wearing an unbuttoned collared shirt and a gold chain, with his prominent gorilla chest tattoo visible. FanSided journalist Amy Kaplan uploaded stills of McGregor with the lead actor of Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal, and other cast members such as Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, and Lukas Gage. The pictures showcase Gyllenhaal and McGregor standing side by side off-camera, and McGregor standing in a boat while Gyllenhaal grasps the vessel’s side.
Doug Liman, the renowned director known for his work on movies such as Edge of Tomorrow, Jumper, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Fair Game, is at the helm of the Road House reboot. Joel Silver, the producer of the original film, has also been assigned to produce the remake. Jake Gyllenhaal, a well-known A-list actor, has acted in various films, including Nightcrawler, Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.
In the new version of Road House, Gyllenhaal portrays Dalton, the same character name that was played by Patrick Swayze in the original. Dalton is a former UFC fighter who takes up a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.
At present, little information is available regarding McGregor’s character in Road House. McGregor, who is making his debut as a movie actor, was formerly the UFC’s featherweight and lightweight champion and was the first athlete in the organization’s history to hold titles in two different divisions simultaneously. With a professional record of 22-6, the Irishman is one of the most well-known names in mixed martial arts. As per Tapology, McGregor’s name is associated with eight of the top ten most popular UFC pay-per-view events ever.
In his most recent fight at UFC 264 in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July 2022, he faced off against Dustin Poirier in a trilogy battle, but in the first round’s final moments, he broke his leg, and the match was called off by the cage-side doctor before the second round started. McGregor has expressed his intention to return to fighting in 2023 on numerous occasions.
