Ralph Macchio has announced the start window for filming Cobra Kai season 6. Originally debuting on YouTube Red in 2018, the show gained widespread popularity when it moved to Netflix in 2021. Despite most Netflix shows ending after season 3, Cobra Kai has been renewed for a sixth and final season, continuing its action-packed and nostalgic story.

Although there hasn’t been any official announcement about the release date of Cobra Kai season 6 on Netflix, Ralph Macchio, who plays Daniel LaRusso in the show, shared some positive information on the show’s progress during a recent appearance at the Atlanta Comic Convention. When asked about the status of Cobra Kai, he suggested that work is ongoing and provided an estimate for when production might begin in the final season. PopCulture has the full details of his statement below:

They’re writing the scripts now, and we’re supposed to start in Atlanta in probably this spring. I think May is the pencil plan to get started. I can’t wait.

Why Season 6 Should Be the End of Cobra Kai

Despite Netflix being infamous for ending series prematurely, the creators of Cobra Kai, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, were the ones who decided to conclude the show after season 6, as the streamer had no intentions of doing so. Although it may be disheartening to hear that Cobra Kai will not continue indefinitely, it is likely the appropriate decision to bring the series to an end after season 6.

The significant problem with Cobra Kai is that its youthful cast has significantly aged beyond their roles. It has become increasingly challenging to accept that Peyton List, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, and Mary Mouser still portray high school students. Additionally, it is implausible that these young adults remain utterly fixated on karate as if they were young children with no other obligations or interests.

Cobra Kai has undeniably pushed the limits of plausibility since its inception. Although the show has skillfully maneuvered around some of its more exaggerated components, there is still a risk of the entire fragile structure collapsing. The show’s creators appear to concur that it is wiser to end the series while Cobra Kai is still in control, rather than persisting through the inevitable departure of cast members and declining creativity. With both Cobra Kai and Stranger Things nearing their conclusion, the Netflix lineup will undoubtedly seem thinner. Still, both shows have a final opportunity to make a significant impact before their departure.
