Selena Gomez Taking a Break From Social Media, Said 'She Is Too Old For This' - Theubj

Gomez had supported her close friend Taylor Swift by commenting on a video that referred to Bieber as a “bully”.

After some TikTok drama involving her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s wife Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez has announced that she will be going on a complete social media hiatus. In a quick TikTok Live on Thursday, Gomez informed her fans that she will be stepping away from social media entirely. Her decision was prompted by her comments on several videos that hinted at the animosity between herself and Hailey. Gomez stated that she finds the situation a bit silly, and at 30 years old, she believes she is too old for it. She expressed her love for her fans and promised to see them again soon, but added that she will be taking a break from everything.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actress from “Only Murders in the Building” revealed that she has eliminated all of her social media accounts except for TikTok. She explained that she has chosen to have her assistants manage her digital accounts.

She explained to the magazine, “For the longest time, the world felt like my high school and I found myself bombarded with information that I didn’t want. After going through a difficult breakup, I didn’t want to receive any kind of feedback, not necessarily about the relationship, but the comparisons between me and others. Although there were thousands of positive comments, my mind would always gravitate towards the negative ones.”

She continued, stating that people would write mean and specific paragraphs, attacking her looks and intelligence, causing her to constantly cry and experience anxiety. She didn’t care about comments calling her “ugly” or “stupid”, but the detailed and malicious ones affected her deeply. Eventually, she decided that it was a waste of time and she couldn’t take it anymore.

Gomez’s choice to depart from social media and TikTok was made when she found herself in a familiar situation involving herself and Hailey. She had commented on a TikTok video that resurfaced, showing Hailey making a disgusted face when a co-host mentioned Swift. The video called Hailey a “mean girl” and “a bully.”

Beneath the video, Gomez wrote a comment defending Swift, stating that her best friend is and remains one of the best in the business. Gomez and Swift have had a long-standing friendship, with Gomez revealing in a Rolling Stone interview that Swift was her only friend in the industry. Gomez spoke candidly about never feeling like she fit in with the “cool group of girls” who were also celebrities, and instead felt the weight of everyone around her leading fulfilling lives. She struggled with finding happiness in materialistic things and ultimately didn’t like who she was because she didn’t know herself.

A TikTok user suggested that Kylie Jenner had criticized Gomez’s eyebrows after the singer posted about getting them laminated excessively. Jenner commented on the video, stating that there was no intention of throwing shade toward Gomez and that people were making a big deal out of nothing. Gomez also commented, agreeing with Jenner and adding that she is a fan of hers.

In a separate video about nepotism babies that referenced Jenner and Hailey, Gomez wrote, “I love you!” Gomez was moved by a fan’s video message of support for her following Bieber and Hailey’s marriage, and she thanked them. Though Gomez and Hailey were seen hugging at an event, it is unclear what their current relationship is like.
