According to Skarsgrd’s portrayal of the Marquis de Gramont, he appears to view John as little more than a tool for acquiring power. The Marquis de Gramont is John Wick’s antagonist as a result of his conflict with the High Table, but he also appears to oppose John on a more personal level. As a result, the Marquis de Gramont might be the first to lose all respect for John Wick because he sees it as a flaw that led to the defeat of John’s former adversaries.
The Marquis de Gramont might harbour true resentment and even contempt for John because of his rags-to-riches origin narrative. The Marquis de Gramont could believe that John Wick is the only one who can deprive him of everything now that he has attained the High Table rank that he does. That would not only distinguish the Marquis de Gramont as a distinct character in John Wick: Chapter 4, but also make him probably John Wick’s most combative and quietly desperate opponent ever.
