‘Avatar 2’ Remains Unstoppable; Surpasses ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ to Become the Fifth-Biggest Movie Ever

James Cameron’s directorial, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’  has now surpassed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, becoming the fifth highest grossing movie ever. ‘Infinity War’, which was released in 2018, has a lifetime collection of $2.052 billion and Avatar’s total collection at the global box office stands at $2.054 billion as of Thursday.

‘The Way of Water’ is now only behind ‘Avatar’, ‘Avengers: End Game’, ‘Titanic’ and ‘Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens’ on the all-time list. ‘Avatar 2’ has earlier surpassed ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ ($1.92 billion) to become the highest grossing movie of the decade!

‘The Way of Water’ has grossed over $1.5 billion excluding the collections from North America, making it the fourth highest grosser of all time internationally. It has grossed over $603 million back at home making it the 13th highest earning film of all time. ‘Avatar 2’ has passed the $2 billion mark globally, six weeks after its release, making it only the sixth-movie ever to do so.

James Cameron now holds three of the top five highest grossing films on the all-time list. The legendary director has also raised the standards of Hollywood to a whole new level with ‘Avatar 2’ as it took the movie, a whopping $1.5 billion to break even! Cameron is planning on releasing three more movies, making ‘Avatar’, a five-film franchise. He is not only directing, but also co-writing the next films as per reports.

With it’s current fabulous run, ‘Avatar 2’ could very well pass ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ by and inch closer to the top 3. The film recently bagged four nominations at the Oscars.
