The official trailer for Yellowjackets season 2 has been released. The popular Showtime series, which debuted in November 2021, was immediately renewed for a second season, and it received seven Emmy nominations. The show alternates between two different time periods: the mid-1990s, when a group of teenagers battle to survive in the wilderness after a plane crash, and the present day, when the adult survivors try to take control of their lives despite the paranormal events that still haunt them from their time in the woods.
This morning, the official Yellowjackets Twitter account tweeted a live video of a candle burning down and requested fan contributions in the comments in exchange for a reward. An hour later, the account unveiled the official teaser for the upcoming Yellowjackets season 2. The trailer offers a first look at several of the new characters that have joined this season in addition to hinting at some of the spooky events of the forthcoming season. The adult version of Liv Hewson’s Van, portrayed by Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under, will also be introduced along with Kessel, who joined the show for season 2. The citizen detective Walter, played by Elijah Wood, who appeared in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, teams up with the adult Misty (Christina Ricci) to investigate some peculiar occurrences in the current timeframe.
Winter has descended on the camp the ’90s survivors established, and their adult selves discover that the situation was even more terrifying than they had thought. It appears that what happened in the forest is beginning again with the realisation that they “weren’t alone out there,” which isn’t helped by the activities of the cult led by the adult Lottie (Simone Kessell).
In the upcoming season, it appears that things are heating up in both periods. As winter approaches in the 1990s, things start to become ugly and the girls’ cannibalistic appetites intensify as tribalism drives them to turn on one another. Although it is still unknown who or what is in the woods with them, it is likely that the mystery will be solved by season’s end. However, the upcoming Yellowjackets season 3, which has already been renewed, would likely have much more to reveal.
In the present, the teaser indicates that it will resolve the cliffhanger around Natalie (Juliette Lewis), an adult who may have been too enmeshed in Lottie’s cult due to her disturbed mentality. The multiple glimpses of sorrowful and stressful events demonstrate that none of the characters appear to have their life together. While the Yellowjackets teaser leaves many questions unanswered, it promises to give fans a thrilling ride that is just as intense as the first season, with plenty of mayhem coming from all sides as the characters, including Kevin Alves’ Travis and Shauna, played by Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse, move deeper into the shadows.
